A WATER company has apologised after a pipe burst and flooded a carriageway.
The main burst yesterday evening around 6pm northbound before the Diplocks Roundabout, near Hailsham.
Cars were seen driving through around “four inches of water” which covered the carriageway. The road was closed at around 8pm.
South East Water teams worked through the night to replace the main, and one lane remained closed into this afternoon.
Ben Hewes, distribution manager at South East Water said: “Our repair crews have worked through the night from Wednesday, August 17 to replace part of a nine inch water main which burst near the A22 in Hailsham.
“This is a complex repair with our technicians rerouting the new section of pipe around a large tree which is growing on top of the water pipe, laying around 10 metres of new water main.
“One lane on the northbound A22 is closed for safety reasons.
“We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused and would like to reassure customers that we are working as quickly and safely as possible to complete the work.
“Local residents and road users can keep up to date with the progress of the repair via our interactive map https://inyourarea.digdat.co.uk/southeastwater.”
