HUNDREDS of people flocked to the coast to show off their scooters for this year’s Mod Weekender.

Gleaming machines customised with scores of mirrors and fog lights lined Madeira Drive, with passersby stopping to admire them as part of a weekend celebrating mod culture.

The event, which has been running since 2004, includes group bike rides, club nights and other activities.

The weekender comes to a close today with a “grand finale” of mod party tunes at Komedia, featuring The Buzz.

Mods regularly clashed with rockers in Brighton during the 1960s, with more than 1,000 teenagers said to have been involved in violence on the 1964 Whitsun weekend.

Deckchairs were used as weapons and destroyed in fires on the beach, with images of the fights from Brighton being shown around the world.

The clash was later dramatised in the 1979 film Quadrophenia.
