POLICE have given an update on an operation that saw coastguard crews search for a woman.

A coastguard helicopter and lifeboats were spotted off the coast of Rottingdean yesterday morning, with several shore-based crews spotted near some rocks on the beach.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that officers, supported by the coastguard and the RNLI, carried out a search for the woman in the early hours of Saturday morning.

She said: “Police, supported by HM Coastguard and Newhaven RNLI, carried out an area search after concerns were raised for the welfare of a woman in Rottingdean around 5.20am on Saturday, October 1.

“The woman was later found safe and the search was stood down.”
