A man was taken to hospital with “serious injuries” after allegedly being struck on the head with a bottle.

Police were called to Montague Street in Worthing town centre just before 2pm along with ambulance crews.

Officers could be seen in the high street clearing up blood from the floor.

Sussex Police believe it to be an isolated incident but said people can expect to heightened police presence in the area.

A spokesman said: “Anyone with information which could help officers with their investigation is asked to report it to police online or call 101 quoting serial number 582 of 22/10.

“Police would like to thank members of the public who were in the area at the time of the incident and assisted officers with their investigation."

A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in police custody.

It comes after an alleged stabbing at The Level in Brighton last night.
