A football fan who threw a flare onto the pitch at the Amex Stadium has been banned from attending games.

Adam Chisnell, 38, was initially banned for three years after lighting a flare in the away end of the stadium during Brighton’s fixture against Manchester United on May 5.

Chisnell, a United supporter, has since lost an appeal and his ban will now have his ban extended to 2027.

PC Darren Balkham, Sussex Police’s dedicated football officer, said: “This was not just a moment of madness. There were two incidents of not only having the devices in the stadium but igniting them.

“We support the Premier League's approach in dealing with these incidents and will prosecute where the evidence supports this action.”

Chisnell, of Canada Close in Warrington, was caught on CCTV with the flares during Albion’s 4-0 hammering of Manchester United.

He was also then seen lighting a second flare at full-time and throwing it onto the pitch.

Chisnell was initially given a three-year Football Banning Order as well as paying nearly £185.

After his appeal was rejected at Lewes Crown Court, the ban was extended by a further two years and he was ordered to pay a further £60 fine.
