A fireworks display and funfair due to take place in the city tonight has been cancelled because of bad weather.
The annual funfair and fireworks display in Preston Park, Brighton, normally has 10,000 people attend.
But due to forecast weather conditions, the team organising the fireworks has advised Brighton and Hove City Council to cancel the display and funfair due to predicted wind speeds.
There will be wind speeds of up 44mph tonight in Brighton.
A council spokesman said: “The fireworks at Preston Park due to take place this evening have been cancelled.
“Given the forecast weather conditions the safety advice from the team organising the fireworks is that they wouldn’t be able to safely fire the display in the predicted wind speeds.
“As far as we’re aware no alternative date has been set at this stage.”
The event’s funfair, including several food and drinks stalls, was due to open to visitors from 4pm.
The fireworks display, which is free to attend, was set to start from 8pm.
The display was cancelled in 2019 due to bad weather.
Yesterday saw a yellow weather warning in place for wind from midnight until 8am.
Strong winds continued throughout the day.
There is also a yellow weather warning for rain from midnight tonight until 3pm tomorrow.
