A section of the A27 has been closed following a serious crash.

Emergency services are attending the incident in Wilmington, near Drusillas Park.

Pictures from the scene, taken at around 1.15pm on Sunday, November 20, show police cars blocking the road.

The incident can be seen in the distance.

In a Twitter post, National Highways said: "The A27 near Polegate remains closed in both directions between A2270 and A26 following a multi-vehicle collision.

"Sussex Police and recovery agents are in attendance.

"Traffic is being diverted via local routes."

A police spokeswoman confirmed two people had been injured in the incident.

She said: "Police were called shortly before 12.30pm on Sunday, 20 November following reports of a collision on the A27 at Wilimgton involving a number of vehicles.

"The road was closed for a short period while vehicles were recovered.

"Two people involved in the incident suffered minor injuries."

"The road is now open."
