Albion were unfortunate not to come away with three points as they dominated rivals Crystal Palace.

A win would have seen Brighton move within two points of Tottenham in fifth.

Despite a dominant display, Albion were unable to secure three points after a calamitous error from goalkeeper Robert Sanchez which was headed in by James Tomkins.

Albion remain in sixth place ahead of a crucial tie at home to seventh placed Fulham next Saturday.

Both teams are on the same amount of points but Albion are ahead with a seven better goal difference.

Patrick Viera’s side started brightly in the early stages before Brighton asserted themselves with neat passing at Selhurst Park.

Albion had a flurry of chances – with full back Pervis Estupinan curling in a delightful effort with his weaker right foot 30 minutes in.

It was ruled out for what appeared a very tight decision by VAR John Brooks.

An image later emerged which appeared to show Estupinan’s position when Pascal Gross passed to him had been judged against the wrong defender.

It is understood the PGMOL yesterday evening recognised there was human error in the VAR intervention.

It was a frustrating day for Albion in front of goal as they were denied by Vicente Guaita on multiple occasions.

Solly March carried on his rich vein of form, meeting an Estupinan cross in the second half which he put into the top right hand corner from close range.

However, just five minutes later, Sanchez dropped a lofted ball from Michael Olise which James Tomkins nodded in to make it 1-1.

Albion would see a few more chances, namely a header from Alexis Mac Allister which should have been converted.

Despite the frustration, Albion fans were in full support of Robert Sanchez.

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi reiterated his support.

He said: “Robert is a fantastic goalkeeper.

“He can make mistakes for sure, it’s not a problem.

“I make more mistakes than him, for this it is not a problem for me.”

Skipper Lewis Dunk and back-up goalkeeper Jason Steele were among those to approach Sanchez and show support at full-time.
