A pigeon nearing death has been rescued from behind netting above shops – now the race is on to bring it back to full health.

The Argus reported yesterday morning on a fledgling stuck on a ledge in Imperial Arcade, Brighton, which had been trapped for two days.

We alerted bird rescuer Justin King who immediately sprang into action and went to assess the situation.

Justin climbed a ladder yesterday afternoon to check on the bird and managed to bring it through the netting to safety, where it was revealed it had an injured left leg and was missing clumps of feathers.

“There’s no motion or feeling in the leg, it seems,” said Justin.

“It’s not moving, I’m not a wildlife expert but it’s really not good. It’s a new-born and really needs a good clean to be honest.

“As a precaution, I’m going to take him into the vets. I’ll give him a shallow bath and a good clean-up after.”

Justin said he will care for, feed, and nurture the baby bird before setting it free.
