A new grant scheme offering more than £1 million to support Ukrainian refugees has opened.

The grant, provided by Brighton and Hove City Council, is offered using Homes for Ukraine funding, launched as a response to the Ukrainian refugee humanitarian crisis. 

So far, the city has welcomed and supported 472 Ukrainian guests via the Homes for Ukraine scheme.

Now, grant funding is available to support projects “empowering” Ukrainian guests to become “active and economically independent residents”.

The council said it is looking for innovative projects which will “strengthen the Ukrainian refugees’ resilience, independence and integration”.

The grants are available for small and large organisations, and the council wants to especially encourage applications from refugee-led groups or charities.

To be eligible to receive funding under this grant scheme, organisations must be in the city or able to confirm that their beneficiaries will be based here. 

Successful applicants will be expected to mobilise quickly and have the projects up and running within three months and deliver project within 15 months. 

In total, £1,150,000 funding is being made available with a maximum of £50,000 to £100,000 for each project based on priority.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on May 2, 2033.
