A dad says he cut his tongue on a piece of KFC chicken he ordered to celebrate his son’s sixteenth birthday.

David Pacifico, from Southwick, collected food from KFC in Boundary Road, Portslade, earlier this month.

The 35-year-old spent more than £50 on food which he took home to celebrate his son Taylor’s birthday.

David told how when he sat down to eat with his family, including eight-year-old daughter Eva, he was shocked to bite into a large piece of metal, cutting his tongue.

KFC said they were surprised to hear of the incident as all their chicken goes through a metal detector before it gets to the restaurant.

“I’m really not happy. All I keep getting from KFC are generic messages. They are being really unhelpful.” David told The Argus.

“We were celebrating my son’s birthday but had to throw away the whole order because were worried that the other half of the metal object was in the remaining chicken as it was snapped in half.”

A spokeswoman for KFC said: “When our chicken gets into the restaurants its hand breaded and prepared, so for it to get through those processes is surprising."

“We have tried to identify what it could be but couldn’t work that out," the spokeswoman added.

“It would be quite something to miss this and we have not had any similar complaints.”

“We are reaching out to the customer to fully understand how this happened so we can investigate and help make it right.”

This is not the first time fast food diners in the city have found metal in their food.

In December last year, a woman from Hove found a piece of metal inside a cheeseburger at Wendy’s in Western Road.

She said that the object, which she discovered while eating, could have seriously hurt her.

The woman made a formal complain to Wendy’s.

At the time, a spokeswoman for Wendy’s UK said: “The quality and integrity of our food is our number one priority.

“We are taking this isolated claim very seriously, have been in touch with the customer to gather more information and are conducting a full investigation.”
