An investigation has been launched after a motorbike was set alight in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police and fire crews responded at about 5am yesterday after reports of a blaze at Vale Park playground, Portslade.

They discovered a moped-style motorbike bike on fire. The blaze damaged the Scout hut it was parked against.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Enquiries alongside the fire service were unable to confirm the cause of the fire and the investigation has been filed pending any further reasonable lines of enquiry.”

Guttering on the Scout hut was melted by the heat of the fire while scorch marks have ruined its wall.

A charred chassis is all that remains of the motorbike.

One person wrote on social media: “Thanks to the person that set fire to the bike in Vale Park.

“Could have burnt the Scout hut down.”

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was contacted for comment.
