A party is being held where guests will attempt to beat a world record in aid of a cancer charity.

The Great Big Pants Party, in aid of Leukaemia UK, will see people flock to Danny House, a Grade I listed Elizabethan red brick mansion near Hurstpierpoint, for a day of festivities.

Everyone is asked to bring a pair of underpants to wear on their heads as they go for a world record for the most people wearing pants on their head at once.

The event, organised by mum Hannah Peckham, is being held in aid of Leukaemia UK.

Hannah’s four-year-old son Bodhi was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in November last year.

Hannah, a children’s author who lives near Brighton, spends most of her time with Bodhi who is currently in a delayed intensification stage of his treatment.

“Organising this event has been a way for Bodhi and I to focus on something else while he is in treatment,” Hannah told The Argus.

Hannah says she is a “mummy on a mission” and has previously called for kinder cancer treatment as her son faces year more treatment for his illness.

She said: “Bodhi is wonderful. He is a joy, but that is why it is so hard when he asks ‘do I have to take my medicine again?’ because the answer is always yes.”

“It is great that there is treatment, but I wish it was kinder.”

The Big Pants Party will take place on Saturday, July 22, and will be fun for all the family, Hannah said.

Woody and Nelly Cook, children of Fatboy Slim and Zoe Ball, will be DJing at the event.

Local businesses in Hurstpierpoint will be turning the high street orange and blue for the week, with bunting and the bakery – which is Bodhi’s favourite – will be turning their doughnuts blue and orange.

Orange is Leukaemia UK’s colour, while blue is Bodhi’s favourite.

“Everything has been planned with Bodhi in mind,” said Hannah.

Hannah was writing her latest book Bronty’s Battle Cry, about a dinosaur who learns to live life by singing his own tune, when Bodhi was diagnosed with cancer.

“This book is especially close to my heart because of the circumstances when I was writing it,” said Hannah.

Hannah has been campaigning with Leukaemia UK and 25p from every book sale will go to the charity to help fund research into kinder cures.
