IN THE spring a bistrot on Eastbourne’s seafront renovated its ground floor space to create a new bar with panoramic views across the English Channel and to Beachy Head.

So we visited to take a look at the views from Bistrot Pierre, try the new bar and we also could not resist the French menu after we had enjoyed a drink.

Bistrot Pierre opened its restaurant and terrace here in 2019.

The new Bar Pierre has cocktails, their refreshing Biére 94 – Bistrot Pierre’s signature lager and its own Cuvée 22 wine range, made in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of Southern France.

Bar Pierre Eastbourne is accessed from Wish Tower beach and is a lovely space. The big round tables are huge and a great place for a pretty big party to enjoy a drink.

The new main bar area looks really smart and those views, though hit by clouds when we went, were still amazing.

I've had snacks there before but they left me feeling still hungry and a bit out of pocket so decided I wanted to try the main menu this time.

That Biere 94 was a great aperitif, as the French might say.

The Camembert starter set the standard. A nice, big, flavoursome melted cheese with rosemary, accompanied by a plum and ginger chutney and fresh bread. I wasn't going to be left hungry this time. Great size, great taste.

And the steak frites was really good. Not a thick doorstep of a steak. More a frying steak with an excellent pepper sauce. But cooked in the French style - not overdone. With their excellent chips and a nice lambs lettuce.

Then I was served the biggest, widest Creme brulee I've seen. That moment when you crack the top is a delight.

And it rounded off a wonderful meal.

I may well return for one of their Soirée Gastronomiques as they look reasonably priced. One for the foodies, they look like, with bavette steak, a whipped goats cheese tartine, and Poulet au Champignon among the dishes on Tuesday.
