A woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car.
Emergency services were called to the crash at the Newhaven Swing Bridge last night.
A car at the scene of the incident was seen with its windscreen smashed, with damage to the front of the vehicle.
Police confirmed that a woman, in her 40s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but “they are not deemed to be life-threatening or life-changing at this time”.
Officers are appealing for information or relevant dashcam footage of the incident, which took place at around 9.25pm yesterday.
