Roads in Bognor, Bexhill and Alfriston flooded after Storm Ciaran

Torrential rain and gale force winds battered the South Coast last week and many roads were left under water.

Now, as residents continue to pick up the pieces from Storm Ciaran and several other weather warnings, some roads are still impassable or severely affected by flood waters.

In Bognor a section of the A29 is still closed after first flooding during Storm Ciaran.

Emergency services previously battled to maintain power to 30,000 homes nearby as flood water threatened to shut down an electricity substation by the side of the road.

The road is still closed both ways between Sainsburys and the Orchard Way Roundabout.

Alfriston has been particularly affected by flooding. Two roads around the East Village impassable due to flooding.

North Street and Lullington Road, to the north and east of Alfriston, are still closed due to flooding. They first became blocked on Thursday.

Cooden Sea Road in Norman’s Bay near Bexhill and Clapham Lane in Exceat on the Cuckmere are both closed due to flooding.

Drivers getting into trouble in Norman’s Bay prompted firefighters to issue another warning to drivers after cars got stuck in flood waters.

An East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "It is clear a number of roads are dangerously flooded due to the heavy rainfall. We would ask that you avoid travelling if possible, and do not assume that you will be safe because you are familiar with the roads.

"Please do not drive through flood water - even if you know the roads! We are being called to a number of weather-related incidents."

Storm Ciaran battered Sussex on Thursday with multiple weather warnings in place across the county.

Yellow weather warnings were also issued by the Met Office on Saturday afternoon.
