A man has been given a suspended sentence after he was found guilty of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.

Ryan Bowyer, 27, from Southwater, was killed while riding a black Kawasaki motorbike through Strood Green, near Petworth, on July 7, 2021, when he collided with a blue Range Rover.

The Range Rover driver, Harry George Hourihan, from Wisborough Green near Chichester, was arrested following the crash.

Hourihan, now 58, was found guilty of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving at Lewes Crown Court on September 4, 2023.

He was sentenced to nine months in prison suspended for two years, 200 hours of unpaid work, disqualified from driving for two years and made to pay £3,500 in costs.

Speaking at the time of his death, Ryan’s family said he was “a shining light and the brightest of stars to not only his family but many others”.
