Everyone has got their favourite handful of pubs. Whether it is for a quick pint while reading the newspaper or a Saturday night out with friends, Brighton has something for us all.

The Argus recently asked readers to name their favourite pubs to include in our ultimate pub crawl, and a few names came up frequently.

So with pay day weekend upon us, here are the pubs you voted for.

  • Good Companions, Dyke Road.

A historic pub with a hidden garden perfect for enjoying one of the strong variety of beers on tap. Pop in on a Sunday for a fantastic roast, too.

  • Evening Star

Anyone keen for a drop they’ve not previously tried will love it at the Evening Star thanks to an impressive rotation of guest ales. A small pub tucked among terraced houses with a lovely bench area out the front. Perfect to hide away from the city during the winter.

  • The Foundry

You’ve probably walked past this pub and thought “I must go in there one day”. Gorgeous cask ales and tasty Mexican food, this one also has a real fire place. Be sure to ask for the board games.

  • The Dorset

This is a very popular pub among Brighton locals for its cheery atmosphere, great selection of beers and cute outdoor tables lining the pavement.

  • Basketmakers.

Basketmakers was recently named in CAMRA’s good beer guide. It’s a classic British pub this one. Compact, a good buzz and has a lovely little food menu. Perfect for a pint on your own while reading the paper or with a good group of friends.

  • White Rabbit

Part of the Laine Pub Company, White Rabbit is a brilliant night out with fantastic DJs in the evenings, but also a great spot to watch the world go by on a Sunday afternoon. Another pub with a gem of a beer garden.

  • Hope and Ruin

The vegan food here is on another level - and I write this as someone who is neither vegetarian nor vegan. Upstairs is one of Brighton’s best music venues which regularly hosts major names as well as local bands. Well worth a trip for the atmosphere alone.

  • Bohemia

A very good cocktail bar tucked away in The Lanes and highly rated among lovers of jazz music. It’s not just about the drinks here, the theatre in making them is mesmerising. Speaking of – if you’re just after a beer while your friends enjoy a cocktail, The Mesmerist is across the road.

  • Lion and Lobster

A brilliant way to end your night out. A proper pub with sports shown across the many television screens. The upstairs garden is an oasis in the summer and a great place to see the colourful skies in the winter.
