Hove has been ranked as a happier place to live than Brighton in the latest Rightmove happiness index.

Each year Rightmove gathers thousands of people's perceptions of where they live.

In this year's 'Happy at Home' survey, over 26,000 residents across Great Britain took part.

Hove was named the 14th happiest place in the South East and landed at 71st in national rankings - just above average.

Brighton, however, trailed behind, ranking 21st in the South East and 93rd nationally.

The top three happiest places to live were Richmond upon Thames in London, Winchester in Hampshire and Monmouth in Wales.

Those surveyed placed a sense of pride, belonging and community at the top of their list of what contributes to happiness.

Access to green space and nature, as well as living in rural areas or near a national park, also had a significant impact on the level of happiness reported.

This is not the first time Hove has been recognised as a happy place to live.

In November 2021, Rightmove's index found Hove to be the happiest place in the southeast and fourth happiest nationally.

Brighton has also had its own fair share of praises.

Earlier this year, in study conducted by Outdoor Toys, Brighton was declared the third happiest city in the UK for families.

This was largely down to its favourable weather, high safety score, and extensive selection of local activities, with an estimated 24 activities per 10,000 people.

Brighton was beaten by Portsmouth, which secured second place, and Hull and Liverpool, who both grabbed the top spot.

Rightmove's 'Happy at Home' survey is now into its 12th year and continues to generate a wealth of insights into what makes residents happy where they live.
