A couple who run a popular pub were "completely overwhelmed" when they celebrated their 20th anniversary as landlords.

Gayle and Paul Newman, who run the Ladies Mile Pub in Mackie Avenue, in Patcham, Brighton, hosted an event to thank everyone who has given them love and support over the last 20 years.

The couple were joined at the event by family, friends and customers to celebrate the anniversary and were "overwhelmed" by the gifts, speeches and messages of congratulations.

Among the surprises given to the couple was a three-night stay at a luxury hotel, spending money, and holiday vouchers.

Gayle, 52, also thanked her "loyal" team for helping run the event.

She said on a heartfelt social media post: "To all of you who've been there at any stage over the last 20 years!!! For all the support and love you’ve given, thank you.

"You are legends. I’d like to say here’s to another 20 years but that’s unrealistic. I’d like to think we’ve at least another 5. But however long it is… let's make some more memories."
