A husband-and-wife duo are excited to welcome hungry customers through the door of their new Greek restaurant.

Angela Sedaraj and George Mukaj will open Souvlaki Bar in Worthing at 11am today after months of preparation.

Opening a restaurant has long been a dream of George’s, who was a chef for many years in Greece before working for restaurants in Brighton. The pair moved to the country seven years ago.

“It’s his dream,” said Angela, 30. “He has wanted to open a restaurant for many years.

“There have been times we’ve missed Greek cuisine but we couldn’t find it anywhere, so we said we need to open one and now the day has come.

“We are excited.”

The restaurant has been in the works for almost a year and the couple say customers can expect authentic, homemade Greek food and great service at affordable prices.

“We are trying to keep the prices down as low as possible considering the cost of living,” said Angela.

“So good prices and good quality food and ingredients.”

The restaurant, in South Street, is a family affair with the couple’s friends and family making up the ten-strong team.

And the new business has already attracted a lot of attention from residents.

“People have been knocking asking us when we’re opening,” said Angela.

“That’s been nice to see. I think people will like us. We are hoping people will give us a chance and try our food, we hope people will be happy and come again.

“We really want this business to work.”

The unit, which was formerly occupied by a KFC, has had a complete refurbishment with Angela and George, 31, wanting to bring a slice of the Mediterranean to the town’s high street.

“We wanted something that reminded people of Greece,” said Angela. “But we also wanted to show another side of Greece.

“Because in a lot of places in Greece families will produce olive oil, that’s how we got our logo of the olive branch. We wanted something simple but also warm.”

The restaurant is open 11am to 11pm every day and people will soon be able to order the restaurant’s cuisine for delivery from Deliveroo and Just Eat.
