A six-storey vacant office block could be converted into over 50 flats.

Upperton Investments Ltd has submitted plans to transform the building, called St Mark's House, in Upperton Road, Eastbourne, into 51 homes.

These homes would include 48 studio flats and three two-bedroom flats.

The 32 car parking spaces and four disabled bays currently at the town centre office site, on the A259, would be kept for future residents to use according to the plans.

There would also be a communal area for residents to store their bikes.

Upperton Investments Ltd said that the town centre location means future residents would have "good access" to shops, services and public transport links.

The building has most recently been used by East Sussex County Council for their children's services department.

However, the planning application states that the site has been vacant for months.

A decision on whether to give prior approval to this development is set to be made by May 7.
