Brighton Artist's Open House doll's house highlights housing crisis

Bryony Devitt has shared her take on the annual Artists Open House tradition by making a portable doll’s house filled with creations from across the world.

Bryony, who lives in Brighton, said she wants to reflect the “ridiculous” renting crisis in the city as prices hit record highs.

She said: Renting in Brighton has always been difficult but with the cost of living rising it has become ridiculous - and the increase in rent is not reflected in our wages.

“Seeing how the housing crisis is impacting people of all ages across our community was really getting me down. The Portable Open House is my response to those feelings, celebrating creativity and not letting it keep me down.

“It has been a cathartic experience - total escapism but also a great way to get people involved and talking about the issue.”

The portable open house features a range of miniature artworks from artists in Brighton, Sussex and across the world.

The art is being exhibited as part of this year’s Artist’s Open House programme and is touring the city.
