Adam Webster has relived the moment he saw a winning start as skipper slip away.

The defender was handed the armband in the absence of suspended Lewis Dunk.

Albion were clinging to a 1-0 lead when a pass in from the Baggies’ right wing flicked off Webster and fell for Karlan Grant, who scored.

Ben White had got back to cover as the ball came in.

Webster said: “I tried to get something on it which as a defender is your natural instinct. If I'd left it, Ben would probably have cleared it.

"It's a case of not inviting too much pressure and trying to manage the game better.

“Perhaps it's a little bit down to inexperience but our structure in the second half probably wasn't as good as the first and that's why we didn't play so well."

Albion had looked like hanging on until that point.

FULL-TIME VERDICT FROM THE AMEX

Webster said: "That is where we need to be better, see the game out and come away with a 1-0 win having not played that well.

White pulled no punches, admitting: “We came out in the second half way off it.”
