Young Albion goalkeeper Tom McGill has been released from hospital after suffering a sickening injury in the FA Cup.

McGill, who is on loan at Crawley Town, took a blow to the head when clearing the ball in their headline-grabbing first-round tie at Torquay.

Reds came from 2-0 and 5-3 down to win the match 6-5 after extra-time.

But the drama was played out to a backdrop of concern over McGill, who was taken to Torbay A&E unit after suffering the injury early in the second half.

Play was held up for 16 minutes while he was treated on the pitch.

A statement from Crawley Town this evening read: “We have been informed that Tom has been discharged from hospital after suffering heavy concussion. We wish Tom all the best in his recovery.”

McGill, 20, was brought into the side for experience after acting as understudy to Glenn Morris in League Two matches.

As a result of his injury and the extended period of stoppage time, the time of the Jordan Tunniclife goal which forced extra-time was recorded as 90+21.
