Hope Powell has confirmed all staff and players are fit and well after a positive Covid-19 test at the club.

The Albion boss is self-isolating and followed yesterday’s 2-0 FA WSL defeat by Aston Villa from home.

She had been in close contact with a member of the women’s backroom staff who tested positive last week.

Subsequent tests on the Albion squad came back negative.

Powell said: “The member of staff is asymptomatic and showing no symptoms which is great. Everyone is well and healthy.”

Assistant boss Amy Merricks also missed the match.

Perry Northeast, the club’s regional talent centre technical director, took charge of the team with input from Powell.

Defeat capped a tough week for Albion, who had to postpone their midweek Conti Cup game aganst Charlton and then suffered defeat to struggling Villa.

Powell said: "I have to applaud our technical team on the ground who did a great job in getting the girls in shape, but we didn’t have anything in the final third and so many of our final passes went astray.

“We have to learn quickly now as next week is going to be similar to this in that I have to stay at home.

“Hopefully we can get everyone in once place and just work on what has gone well for us up to this game and try to take that into the West Ham game.”
