Adam Webster fell off the bike last time he played at Stamford Bridge.

The defender was just finding his feet in the Premier League.

He had made an immediate impression with his debut display at Manchester City.

He was looking good at Chelsea until early in the second half.

Then he accepted possession at the back from Dale Stephens but took a heavy touch, lost the ball to Mason Mount and brought him down.

Jorginho’s subsequent penalty sent the Blues on the way to a 2-0 win.

The Argus:

Webster could be back in action thois evening - for the first time in more than two months.

His last full 90 minutes was one of his very best performances, in the 1-0 win at Liverpool.

And that is all part of a progression since his move from Bristol City which has at times been about learning the hard way.

Head coach Graham Potter said: “I think that is the challenge for us as a club.

“We are taking guys who are not at the level, like Adam Webster who was playing for Bristol City in the Championship, and trying to get him up to being a Premier League player and then a top Premier League player.

“In that process mistakes will happen and the important thing is how you respond.

“I think he has responded really well.

GRAHAM POTTER HAS OPTIONS TO CHANGE LINE-UP AT CHELSEA

THIS IS HOW SUPER LEAGUE WOULD AFFECT ALBION

“The first season there were lots of good things from Adam and challenges as well, which is normal.

“But he has come through that really well, grown and developed.”

Webster was on the bench when Albion drew with Everton last Monday.

But he has not played since the 1-1 draw at Burnley, which followed the midweek win at Anfield.

Potter said: “I think his form before he was injured was fantastic, really good.

“The Liverpool game, for example, was probably one of his best.

“I think he has got the character and he is the personality that he can really continue to take steps.

“It is our job to support him while that is happening. It’s not a straight road, that’s just how it is.

“When you were a kid and learning to ride your bike, sometimes you’d fall off.

“That’s how it was. Then you’d get back up and go again.

“It’s the same adapting to the Premier League.

“It’s just that when you fall off in the Premier League it’s a bit more painful!”

Albion have got by with three recognised defenders of late but a trip to Stamford Bridge could be the ideal time to change that.

POTTER SPELLS OUT LONG-TERM PLAN FOR JAKUB MODER

Dan Burn got on very briefly against Everton after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Potter said of Webster: “He has trained well. He’s had a good few weeks of training and we have managed to get him up to speed.

“There is a possibility but we will see how he is.

“Same as Dan Burn, they have both had a bit more time from last week and trained well and available for selection.”
