Albion matchwinner Aileen Whelan can be a threat at the Amex.

But boss Hope Powell is delighted to see other dangers from her high-flying WSL side.

Whelan headed the clincher as Albion beat Everton 1-0 on Merseyside last Saturday.

All eyes now are on the team’s return to the Amex on Sunday when they face struggling Leicester City (2pm).

It is not too long ago that Whelan was often the only Albion player who looked like scoring.

That has changed this term with Danielle Carter, Inessa Kaegman (both penalties) Lee Guem-min and defender Victoria Williams on two goals apiece.

Powell said: “Aileen will run for 100 or 90-odd minutes, as long as needed.

“Her capacity for running is huge.

“I think what has happened is she has perhaps got other players around her who can equally score.

“Bar perhaps against Arsenal and Chelsea we have kept the ball a little bit better, which has allowed others to score.

“I think the good thing with Aileen is she is a box-to-box player.

“If we are defending, she will be defending the box.

“If we get it up the other end she will definitely be in and around the box.

“She is always going to have or make herself an opportunity to score.

“I guess this season is we don’t have to rely on just her.”

A win would take Albion third after Tottenham conceded a late equaliser in their 1-1 derby draw with Arsenal yesterday.

Leicester have yet to pick up a point since winning promotion but Powell will be on guard.

BRIGHTON READY FOR BIG WSL DAY AT THE AMEX

Asked about Leicester's early struggles, she said: “I think it shows the challenges of the league.

“Every game is a tough ask so it takes a little time to settle.

“If they can ride the storm, I am sure next season they will be better, as we were.

“They have got everything to play for on Sunday and they come with absolutely nothing to lose and a lot to gain.”
