Neal Maupay's immediate future remained unclear yesterday as Albion prepared to visit one of his most productive away grounds.

The French striker has appeared set for a move to Nottingham Forest for about £15 million.

It appears extremely unlikely he will be involved on Sunday as the Seagulls go to West Ham, where he scored on each of their last two visits.

Promoted Forest continued their signing spree by taking Morgan Gibbs-White from Wolves for an initial £25 million.

But their boss Steve Cooper suggested they were not finished yet.

Cooper told a press conference: “Certainly some areas that we want to strengthen in all of the lines throughout pitch, but it is getting the right player and character that fits into our way of working.

“That is what we are committed to doing.

“We feel like we are down the line on a few things, and hopefully, we can finish the process off of getting them through the door.”

Fulham were reported to be keen on taking Maupay on loan.

But, under Premier League rules, that would require them to convert the existing loan of Shane Duffy into a permanent deal.

Everton are also understood to be interested in Maupay.

Salernitana, who had been pursuing him, have now signed striker Boulaye Dia on loan from Villarreal with a view to a full transfer.

Meanwhile, prominent Spanish football director, agent and broadcaster Jose Antonio Martin Otin, better known as ‘Peton’, has claimed Albion have their eyes on 6ft 2in Getafe centre-forward Enes Unal, although there is no confirmation of that from either England or Madrid.
