Pascal Gross is “on fire” as he makes a strong case to his new international boss.

But Albion will hope he remains fit, well and fresh after another potential appearance for Germany tonight.

The Seagulls midfielder shone as stand-in for Joshua Kimmich as his country came from behind to beat the USA 3-1 in Connecticut at the weekend.

He could have further chance to show recently appointed Julian Nagelsmann what he can do in a friendly against Mexico in Philadelphia which starts at 1am on Wednesday our time.

But Albion will keep a keen eye on his well-being during an early-season Stateside trip which attracted criticism from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund when it was announced.

Nagelsmann said: "He has the glow in his eyes.

“For him, the national team is something special. He's on fire.

"Pascal is a very smart and intelligent footballer.

“He is brave and has a good counter-pressing. He can play many positions."

Gross has refused to be compared to Kimmich but his performance in place of the Bayern man has been a big talking point in German football.

He currently leads Albion in Premier League chances created this season with 17.

His impressive display on his first start for Germany came alongside former Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan, now of Barcelona.

Albion play City at the Etihad on Saturday.
