AEK Athens are hoping for an injury boost ahead of their game with Albion.

Argentinean striker Sergio Araujo stepped up a level in training on Monday in an effort to claim a place in the squad to face the Seagulls.

Tuesday is thought to be a pivotal day in his push for a place.

But forward Levi Garcia and midfielder Jens Jonsson both appear to be struggling.

All three missed Sunday’s 1-0 win at lowly Giannina, where AEK scored early and then dominated without killing the game off.

Switzerland international striker Steven Zuber scored the winner for AEK, who are third in the table nd just one point behind leaders Panathinaikos.

Centre-back Harold Moukoudi is out until mid-December.

If Albion hope Ajax can take points off Marseille and AEK in the last two rounds of games, they were given some hope by events at the weekend.

The Amsterdam giants won 5-0 at home to bottom-of-the-table Vitesse in the Eredivisie with Chuba Akpom among the goals.

Akpom led the attack with Brian Brobbey ruled out through illness.

Ajax now prepare to visit Marseille, who remain out of sorts.

Boss Gennaro Gattuso was far from impressed by his team in their 1-1 draw at Strasbourg.

Thursday’s game at Stade Velodrome is an 8pm kick-off, UK time with AEK v Albion starting at 5.45pm.
