Valentin Barco played for Argentina under-23s as excitement increased over his expected move to Albion.

The 19-year-old has been confirmed in the squad for the Olympic qualifying tournament, which starts on January 20 and, for the four nations who survive the first phase, runs until February 11.

If Argentina do not make it out of their group, they will complete their fixtures on February 2.

Barco started for Javier Mascherano’s under-23s as they beat Argentinos Juniors 3-0 in a friendly as part of their build-up to the competition, which takes place in Venezuela.

The Argus has been told Albion are “getting there” slowly with a deal which would see Barco leave Buenos Aires giants Boca Juniors and head to the Amex.
