The Argus: Grow Claws

Grow Claws

From: Brighton

Influences: Jack Shaindlin, Buster Keaton, Kurt Weill, Cole Porter, The Beach Boys, David Bowie, Frank Zappa, 10cc, Os Mutantes, Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac, Wire, Talking Heads, Bow Wow Wow, Adam and the Ants, XTC, Steve Reich, The Waitresses, Kate Bush, The Smiths, The Flaming Lips, Pulp, Super Furry Animals, TV On The Radio, Alamaailman Vasarat and MIA.

Profile: How time flies – Le Band Extraordinaire’s Tom Waitsian indie jazz of the track Marriage Of Convenience was one of the first Downloads Of The Week when the column first started in September 2007.

Now fast-forward three years, and the band has changed their name and their sound, which still includes the klezmer-style woodwind and brass, but feels a little less vintage and more contemporary, with a certain glossy pop edge.

In terms of being a band to watch in Brighton though, nothing has changed, with the five-piece having already supported the likes of The Noisettes, Wild Beasts, Amanda Palmer, Royal Bangs and The Fiery Furnaces.
