Mount Kimbie

From: Brighton and London

Influences: Burial, The Bug, Xiu Xiu, Grouper, D'Angelo, The Microphones and Angelo Badalamenti

Profile: Based around the duo of Dom Maker and Kai Campos, Mount Kimbie already have two EPs and an album to their name, released through the Hotflush label. The pair met at London's South Bank University, with Kai originally coming from Cornwall and Brighton-based Dom hailing from Bognor, getting his first experience of electronic music as a sixth-former visiting the town's Sheiks nightclub. Their sound moves through dubstep and hip-hop, jazz, techno and ambient, post-rock, UK garage and film scores. It has already seen them get picked up for this year's In The City festival in Manchester, where they will be playing at the Band On The Wall on Thursday, October 14, and get name-checked by Mercury Music Prize-winners The xx in the NME. The pair's album Crooks And Lovers was released in July and features recordings made in a 50m-long wind tunnel by Brighton's seafront.
