A SEAFOOD restaurant and cocktail bar are opening in Brighton’s next luxury hotel.

The Harbour Hotels group has taken over the former umi Hotel in King’s Road, Brighton.

The refurbished 79-bed hotel will reopen in August while its flagship The Jetty Restaurant and HarBAR will open on the first weekend of July.

The restaurant has taken the space formerly occupied by Little Bay, while the bar has been extended.

The menu has yet to be finalised but is expected to include locally sourced, seasonal with a seafood focus, an eclectic wine list and cocktail menu.

The two Rosette Jetty restaurant in Christchurch, Dorset, was shortlisted for the Seafish and Caterer 2016 Restaurant of the Year 2016 awards, while it also has a counterpart in upmarket Salcombe in Devon.

Dorset’s menu offers a mini five-course tasting menu, featuring crab custard slice, and bream fillet, for £25 per person, as well as a full tasting menu featuring seared scallop and catch of the day, for £59 per person.

Next door, HarBAR is aimed at becoming a destination bar, with a stylish décor, contemporary artwork, seafront views and a marble-top bar.

Mixologists will serve innovative cocktails which can be taken with Jetty bites and sharing platters, while DJs will play party tunes on on Friday and Saturday nights.

Harbour already has hotels in Chichester, Froyle Park in Hampshire, Guildford and Northbrook Park in Surrey, Sidmouth and Salcombe in Devon, and St Ives in Cornwall.

As well Brighton, the group is in the process of opening in Bristol and Southampton.

The group acquired the site in May 2015 after a three year search.

Harbour Hotel managing director Mike Warren is familiar with Brighton having spent a number of years with the Hotel du Vin group and helping launch its hotel in the city.

He said: “We see Brighton as a must location for us and an advantage for the brand.

“It’s coastal, it’s a commuter city, it’s on the party circuit and it has a highly regarded domestic tourism sector. It’s a great place for a cool hotel.

“The hotel will have an extremely high standard, and while we don’t chase five star ratings, it will be a five star level of luxury.”

As well as a major refurbishment, the hotel will have a spa and rooftop pool.

The group is owned by property investor Nicolas James Group.
