A road age attacker who dragged a woman out of her car in front of her children has been locked up.

Declan Peake, 19, beat the 31-year-old in the street in Sompting in January.

He admitted assault and was sentenced yesterday to 18 months in a young offender institution.

The attack happened at about 5.50pm on Thursday, January 26.

The woman was in a silver Vauxhall Zafira car with her four children inside.

Peake got out of a black Renault Clio and dragged her out of the car, before throwing her to the ground.

Kelly Bates, 19, who was with him, also joined in with the attack.

The woman was taken to Worthing Hospital with a head injury and her car was also damaged.

Peake, of North Road, Portslade, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm.

Bates, of Manor Hall Road, Southwick, was found guilty of the same charge after a trial at Portsmouth Crown Court.

They were sentenced at the same court on Friday, November 23.

Bates was given a two-year community order. She was also ordered to do 180 hours’ unpaid work.

At the time, PC Sarah Masters of Sussex Police said: “This was a frightening ordeal for the victim and her four young children who were in the car at the time of the attack and witnessed their mother being assaulted.”

It is not important what led to this attack.
The fact that children witnessed adults using violence is enough to justify the sentence. When will you people realise that such behaviour is reprehensible, whatever the reason..

Not sure what a mum with 4 kids in her car could do to make a young man drag her from her car and attack her. Whatever the provocation was the right response was NOT attacking her like that. The right response would have been to drive off shaking your head thinking "what an idiot".

who the hell do these people think they are... Thinking they could get away with it... Total scum, weather she "slapped" Him first or not he should have been a "man" and walked away.... "man" doesn't describe this total scum bag and the woman is no better..... Total disgrace.. People these days make me sick

Ah people? The judge would have taken any alledged provocation in account while sentencing.

He'll serve 4 month approx of this sentence, and the girlfriend will not attend any of her community blablabla.

Also, usually a under-21 is not sentenced to detention on a first offence.

there is too much tension on the roads nowadays. no one should get wound up by another persons driving, but we see it every day. some people don't help themselves by doing stupid things like cutting people up, and using phones, but the best thing is to just ignore them. having said that, there is no excuse for attacking someone.

Love how the women he was with / who JOINED in on the attack in front of the other woman's kids, and who was ALSO found GUILTY was given naff all as punishment!


Nope, no sexual bias in the courts at all!!


Whether or not she was 'able' to do as much damage as the guy or not, her INTENT was obviously to try to do so - she should therefore have got the same sentence - if we want equality as we keep saying....

I also believe that no matter what this lady has done (if she did do anything that is) she did not deserve to be beaten! I have heard the reason Bates did not get a custodial sentence is she did not have the approx 10 previous convictions that THE HULK had!(Declan Peake) I have heard he has also previously been tagged etc! i have teenage sons and i would be devastated if my sons did something like this! So i feel for both family's involved!
