The Argus is set to once more recognise the selfless men and women of Sussex at our annual achievement awards.

Today sees the official launch of this year’s event which will conclude with a lavish ceremony at the Theatre Royal Brighton on October 6.

The Argus is forever full of inspiring men, woman and groups who more often than not go unnoticed and unappreciated by the wider public.

Now in its 12th year, The Argus Achievement Awards sets about shining a light on these incredible individuals and groups with the hope of inspiring others.

Awards

Most of the regular awards will again be contested for with the likes of Charity of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Teacher of the Year.

However there are also a host of newawards including Grand Parent of the Year and Local Hero.

As ever the event would be impossible without our kind sponsors which this year include Legal & General, Juice 107.2, AVT Connect, Mears, Pembroke Care Group, UK Power Networks, American Express, Brighton and Hove City Council, Southern Water, Hilton Brighton Metropole, Theatre Royal Brighton and City College Brighton and Hove.

But the awards could not go ahead without you, our readers.

Judges

A panel of judges, led by The Argus editor Michael Beard, pictured left, will then select the top three in each category in time for the October ceremony.

Frances Borrer, from sponsor Legal & General, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting The Argus Achievement Awards again this year and to be sponsoring the 'Charity of the Year' category, which recognises those whose work supports the most vulnerable in our society.

“Our support of The Argus Appeal will help ensure they are able to do what they do best - raise the funds thatmake a real impact to those who live and work in these areas.”

Mr Beard, added: “The event, now in its 12th year, is a fantastic opportunity to recognise the unsung heroes across thecommunity which we serve.

“They too often go unnoticed and this is a great opportunity to thank them.

“I would encourage everyone to take a good look at the categories and to nominate those they think deserve the recognition.”
