Green-fingered growers are gearing up to do battle in Baildon.
The village’s annual horticultural show will be held on Sunday, September 1, and Baildon Horticultural Society chairman Bill Tait is hoping for a bumper year.
“It’s a much better year than last year when we almost had to cancel because nobody had much produce because of the weather,” Mr Tait said.
“It’s quite competitive, but in a friendly sort of way.”
But the event is about more than comparing carrots and measuring marrows.
Mr Tait said: “We try and make it more of a village show – more than just being for nerdy growers!”
The event, at Sandal Primary School, in West Lane, Baildon, opens to the public at 2pm. Exhibitors can register on the day.
