Four teenagers were jailed following a fight which appeared on the internet in CCTV footage.

Sussex Police confirmed yesterday it had charged six youths with affray after the incident at Churchill Square in Brighton on February 14.

Four male youths, two aged 16, one 15 and another 17, admitted the offences at Brighton Youth Court on March 9 and were given custodial sentences.

Three were imprisoned for six months and one for four months.

James Hay, 18, from Lee Road, Lewes, and a 16-year-old male from Brighton deny the charges and are to appear at Brighton Youth Court on Friday, April 20.

Police are investigating how CCTV footage of the incident came to appear on the Bebo and YouTube websites.

The Argus revealed on Monday that the video had been posted complete with a rap soundtrack and a credit sequence bragging about the violent acts.

Superintendent Graham Bartlett, from Brighton and Hove police, said: "We are currently investigating whether there are offences committed by people uploading videos on websites, particularly in relation to the Public Order Act. Also if whether these videos are inciting people to behave in a certain way or cause people harrassment, alarm and distress.

He said the images related to a matter for which people were still awaiting trial and added that it was disappointing they had been released to the media prior to the matter being concluded.

He said: "Giving the websites on which they appear I can only assume that the images originated from matter supplied to the defence. In view of the ongoing prosecution it is not appropriate for us to comment on them further."
