AN ARMED robber has been jailed after carrying out a raid on a Sainsbury’s Local store.
Unemployed John Guerin, pulled out a handgun and threatened staff at the convenience store in South Coast Road, Peacehaven, in December 2015.
Police were called after a man suspected of stealing alcohol threatened staff with the weapon before making his getaway.
Officers immediately searched the area but couldn’t anyone matching the description.
After a CCTV image of the 44-year-old of Canada Grove, Bognor, was released he was arrested in December 2016 for the robbery.
He was found guilty of robbery and possession of an imitation firearm after a two day trial at Hove Crown Court.
He was sentenced to eight years and six months in prison.
Detective Constable Sean Stapley, of Sussex Police, said: “Guerin went into Sainsbury’s and stole alcohol when challenged he pulled out what turned out to be a BB gun.
“Nonetheless the members of staff were terrified and I am glad Guerin is now in prison.”
