A shopping centre has chosen a grief charity to support this year.

The Beacon shopping centre, in Terminus Road, Eastbourne, has selected "You Raise Me Up" as their 2024 charity of the year.

The charity supports families who are grieving the loss of a young loved one across Sussex, Surrey and Kent.

It was founded in 2011 by Jane and Fraser Brooks after their 17-year-old daughter Megan's death.

Over the last 12 years the charity has supported 400 families and 3,000 individuals.

Deb Harrington, the charity's administrator, said: "Sadly, we are busier than ever, but we are delighted to offer support to family members experiencing this unimaginable grief."

Mark Powell, The Beacon general manager, said: "The team at You Raise Me Up has been very active in The Beacon and around the town.

"I am delighted that we can support them this year."

The charity has no waiting lists and a 24-hour phone line, as well as a café in Polegate High Street where people can go for company.

Retailers at the shopping centre have already shown their support and will continue to help them raise funds to support the families they assist.
