Albion have missed out on £1.1 million Bournemouth striker Lewis Grabban.
He has decided instead to stay-put instead with the Cherries and has signed a new and improved three-and-a-half year contract today.
The U-turn comes after the Seagulls failed to agree personal terms with Grabban.
The Argus website revealed earlier this morning the prospect of Grabban remaining at Bournemouth.
He put pen to paper at lunchtime and will now be involved in Bournemouth's home game against Watford.
Albion are expected to revert their attention to Cardiff's Joe Mason. He will cost around £2 million but will fit in with the Seagulls' wage structure.
