New Albion manager Chris Hughton is about to conduct his first piece of transfer business by bringing Greg Halford back to the club.

The versatile 30-year-old is on the brink of rejoining the Seagulls on loan from Nottingham Forest.

Halford impressed at centre-half prior to Hughton's appointment.

Hughton has acted switfly to tie up a deal, with Championship rivals Fulham and Millwall also interested in the experienced multi-tasker.

Hughton told The Argus this morning: "He has certainly done well in the period of time here. I am assessing all the options that we've got.

"We've been trying to do that, amongst everything else over the last two days, and we'll certainly continue to do that but I'm very conscious Greg had a good spell here and that he has a versatility in his play."

Meanwhile, former Albion loan striker Darren Bent is expected to complete another temporary move from Aston Villa to promotion-chasing Derby County.
