Albion's immediate prospects of another clash with Premier League opposition rest with Championship rivals Leeds United.
The Seagulls will be unseeded in tonight's Capital One Cup second round draw if Leeds go through against Doncaster Rovers.
That would open up the possibility of facing one of the 12 Premier League clubs not involved in Europe who enter the competition at the second round stage.
If Leeds are knocked out then Albion would be seeded and could only face teams from League One, League Two or MK Dons or Preston, who were promoted to the Championship last season.
The unlikely possibility of Albion being seeded, based on the 12 clubs with the highest finishing positions from last season, has arisen from the number of Championship teams already knocked out, the latest Derby at Portsmouth last night.
The draw will be made after the Leeds TV tie.
