Bobby Zamora ended Albion’s long wait for a goal and a win as he struck at Ewood Park today.
His predatory strike and a grafting team performance secured a 1-0 success over Blackburn.
Zamora scored in only the third minute, guiding home the rebound after Jamie Murphy’s shot hit the post.
On his 35th birthday, Zamora almost made it a double either side of the break.
He was denied by Jason Steele just before the break and, after it, lobbed narrowly wide when clean through.
Anthony Knockaert then hit the post with a shot on the turn in the second period.
But Knockaert’s near miss came after the Seagulls had a major escape at the other end.
Ben Marshall’s 25-yard free-kick, won by Elliott Bennett, hit the inside of the post, bounced out and somehow avoided going in off David Stockdale.
The match was played in falling snow and was not a particularly pretty spectacle.
But, based around Lewis Dunk, Albion produced a resolute display – and the back-to-basics approach they admitted they needed to halt their poor run.
