Jamie Murphy has revealed how Albion’s “boys at the back” are fuelling their counter-attacking game.

The Scottish winger has scored on three of his last four starts as the Seagulls reignite their promotion push.

But he reckons steely defending and some cool-headed distribution from deep are making the Seagulls’ fast-breaking tactics possible.

Albion have been dubbed the kings of the counter attack by their former boss Russell Slade, now in charge at Cardiff.

Murphy, on target at Bristol City on Tuesday, told The Argus: “We were under pressure early on but we managed to ride that out and the boys at the back defended brilliantly – and we managed to get the goal.

“When you have pace up front that happens. A bit of calmness from the defenders helps us play.”

Albion’s six-day break in fixtures ahead of the home clash with Leeds comes at a good time for Bruno.

The right-back is expected to maintain his ever-present league record, despite taking a kick to the right knee at Bristol City.

Bruno went off at half-time at Ashton Gate to prevent further damage but the injury is not considered serious.

But the game looks like coming too early for ex-Seagulls loanee Chris Wood.

Leeds boss Steve Evans says his centre-forward is 10-14 days from a return after hamstring trouble.

Murphy said: “Leeds are a big club and a tough game.

“But we look forward to it at the Amex - and to getting the crowd going.”
