Albion boss Gus Poyet has urged fans not to expect too much of Gavin Hoyte and has not ruled out trying to re-sign the rookie Arsenal defender next season.
On-loan Hoyte was back in the starting line-up at right-back for the stricken Inigo Calderon in Saturday’s 2-1 home victory over Bristol Rovers.
Calderon has a serious hip injury which could even rule him out of the start of the 2010-11 campaign.
Hoyte has struggled to win over supporters with his performances since Poyet inherited him from previous manager Russell Slade.
The Uruguayan believes his inexperience should not be overlooked just because he has come from a big club like Arsenal.
Poyet said: “We know the qualities of Gavin, how quick he is, how he can deal with any kind of winger.
“It’s when it is week in and week out how much he can give you, because he is very young – people mustn’t forget that.”
