Elliott Bennett has pledged his future to Albion after the departure of Inigo Calderon.

The former Wolves winger is not looking to compound the loss of Calderon by seeking a move.

Bennett scored the only goal, his ninth of the campaign, in Saturday’s closing 1-0 home win over Yeovil but has no plans to cash in on his influential debut season.

The 21-year-old still has another 12 months on his contract and he told The Argus: “I’m not looking to go anywhere.

“You never know what is around the corner but I am not stupid – a Premier League club is not going to come in for me.

“If that was to happen it would be one of those things you have to go and do but I’m not looking to leave.

“I’m really happy here. My girlfiend has settled down here and I’m really enjoying my football. I think the gaffer and this club is going places.

“We are building something special and I really want to be part of that next season.”

Bennett’s form has attracted attention from other clubs. They would have to fork out far more than the £200,000 Albion paid to Wolves in August but boss Gus Poyet is making no promises about being able to keep him.

Poyet said: “He is under contract and, let me tell you, he is going to be expensive. I’d love to still have him, because he has played every single game for me, apart from Torquay.

“I don’t know if they were looking at Elliott but I’ve had the list of scouts that have been watching us.

“You cannot imagine the names of the teams, from the Premier League to League Two, Scotland and Ireland, everywhere.

“We cannot hold players that people are going to come and buy. That is something we have to accept. Manchester United couldn’t hold Ronaldo. We’ll try hard, to a level but we won’t change our set-up.”

A three-year contract offer to right-back Calderon was withdrawn, because the Spanish star failed to meet the sign-by deadline imposed by Albion in the hope of a move to Southampton.

Bennett said: “It’s disappointing. He’s a top lad and an absolutely brilliant player. He’s showed that since coming here but that’s football.

“Obviously we wanted him here, because we know what a good player he is and what an asset he is to the club but if that is where he decides he wants to go that is up to him.

“The manager has managed to bring in players like Caldy, so I am sure there are other gems out there that he can bring into the club and do just as good a job.

Gavin Hoyte has done very well since getting back into the team. The run of games he’s had has given him a lot of confidence.

“If the gaffer wants to bring him back here next season then hopefully that can happen.”

Calderon could now find himself without any club. Sources at Southampton suggest manager Alan Pardew may lose his job this week after failing to steer Saints into the play-offs.
