Gus Poyet believes common sense has prevailed after he escaped an FA charge.

The Albion boss was warned over his future conduct after his dismissal for arguing in last Saturday’s game against Doncaster.

No further action was taken after the FA studied referee Eddie Ilderton’s report.

Poyet, angered when Ilderton booked Kazenga LuaLua for alleged simulation, said: “I’m not surprised. It’s common sense.

“If you look at what happened, I wasn’t expecting anything else.”

Poyet will receive updates on Will Hoskins (hip) and LuaLua (tight hamstring) this morning as Albion prepare for the trip to Portsmouth on Saturday.

Pompey were shocked by Barnet in the Carling Cup on Tuesday but Poyet warned: “This will be a proper Championship game.

“We will have to be strong, physically and mentally. It’s the Championship.”

LuaLua’s possible participation will cause plenty of interest among Portsmouth supporters.

His older brother Lomana was a hero at Fratton Park and scored 19 goals during the club’s Premiership years including a famous late equaliser against Newcastle, from whom he was on loan.

Poyet chose not to risk his winger against Gillingham.

He said: “With everything that happened in the summer and the injury and the hamstring we prefer to keep him safe in those games, so at the moment we are looking forward to Saturday.

“We won’t risk him three times a week if it isn’t necessary.”

Pompey will hand out blue and white flags to their fans on Saturday in the hope of creating a lively atmosphere for their first home league game of the season.
