Gus Poyet has hailed Albion’s winning start in the Championship as a “dream”.

An impressive 3-1 victory at highly-rated Cardiff last night means the Seagulls have kicked off their league campaign with three victories for the first time in 58 years.

They are second in the table behind Southampton and also have a Carling Cup second round tie against Sunderland to look forward to at The Amex next week.

Poyet said: “It’s a dream start. Everything we are trying works. The players are adapting to any situation, any shape, any tactics, reading the game well.

“When we are not at our best with our passing game we are defending very, very well. It’s really impressive and I am very pleased for the players.”

Two goals from Ashley Barnes, including a penalty, and a debut strike from substitute Will Hoskins wrecked Cardiff’s own 100% start to the season.

Poyet said: “If you look at the stats they probably had many shots but not many dangerous ones. We scored three goals, hit a post (Craig Mackail-Smith) and were always controlling the game.

“It was a very good performance, especially here. Remember, we are playing against top teams now who are going to be there or thereabouts to go up and were on a winning run and we needed to be spot-on.

“It’s a great feeling, because I’m seeing my team in there. There is no better feeling for a manager.”

Albion could clinch the signing of Swansea midfielder Ryan Harley in time for Blackpool’s visit on Saturday. Poyet revealed to The Argus: “We are working on it. I hope we will do something before the end of the week and we are still working on something else.”
